Thailand is globally very famous for tourist destination. Its long history, exotic arts and marvelous nature and landscape attract more than million visitors annually. However, coming to Thailand as foreigner requires some official processes for documents and visa.
Tourist Visa in Thailand
Tourist visa is one of short stay visa types for sight-seeing or leisure purpose. Generally, Thailand allows visa exemption for individuals from many countries for 15 or 30 days depending on nationality. The visa will be stamped on the passport when enter Thailand. For those who wish to stay longer than 30 days, tourist visa is needed to apply at the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate in their countries, prior to arriving in Thailand. It must be used within 90 days from the date of issue and allows an initial stay of 60 days.
Types of Tourist Visa in Thailand
Tourist visa can be divided in to single-entry and double or multiple-entry. Single-entry visa is valid for entering Thailand once within 3 months from the date of application and the period of stay is 60 days maximum. Double or multiple-entry visa is valid for entering Thailand within 6 months from the date of application. The period of stay is 60 days maximum per stay and can enter Thailand again as long as visa is still valid.
Extension for visa duration can be done at Thai Immigration Bureau with 1,900 THB fee. However, the duration cannot be over 90 days. More importantly, the holder of a tourist visa is not allowed to work or conduct business in Thailand.
